Preparedness

Emergency preparedness

Preparedness works best when it is practical, shared, and revisited. Start with the disruptions that affect essential needs, make a household communication plan, and build supplies over time.

These pages provide generic public education. They do not use private household data, predict hazards, or replace instructions from emergency officials.

Build a usable foundation

  • Discuss how you will receive alerts, communicate, shelter, and evacuate.
  • Gather essential supplies and account for medicine, disability, caregiving, dietary, and pet needs.
  • Keep copies of important contact and health information accessible.
  • Practice the plan and update it when people, needs, or contact details change.

Preparedness topics

Use the nine topic pages below to work through essential needs without creating an artificial inventory of locations or organizations.
